What services are available at the Metro Career Centers?

How much does it cost to participate in Metro Career Center services?

There is no charge for most Metro Career Center job seeker services. In circumstances where a fee may be charged, the individual will be notified prior to receiving the services and may elect not to participate.

Why do I need to register for services?

Registration allows greater access to employment and training resources. Registration is required by the State of California for most services.

Can the Metro Career Centers help me find full-time employment?

If you are eligible for full-time employment, the Metro Career Centers provide access to an employment system available to you through the State of California’s web portal, CalJOBS.ca.gov.

Can the Metro Career Centers help me get training?

Your local Metro Career Center can assist with a variety of training if you qualify for services.

Is my information kept confidential?

All information provided to the Career Centers for the purposes of participating in programs is confidential within the Career Center Network and its partner agencies.

What does it cost to use Metro Career Center services?

Can the Metro Career Centers help train my employees?

The Metro Career Centers are your resource for employee training, whether it’s basic workplace skills, English literacy, or a customized package of specialized training. Working with numerous education partners, including local schools and colleges, we can provide a wide variety of courses and certifications.

Who do I contact for hiring assistance?

For assistance in recruiting or training workers, contact your local Metro Career Center Business Services Representative.

What information must I provide the Metro Career Centers to submit a job order?

In addition to name, address and contact information, we also require a description of the job and any other requirements the applicant must meet, interviewing preferences, pay range and benefits, and Federal ID number.

Is the information I provide the Metro Career Centers kept confidential?

Information provided to the Metro Career Centers for the purposes of participating in programs is maintained confidential within the Career Center Network.


Youth FAQs

How old must I be to participate in Metro Career Center services?

A young person must be 14 to 21 years of age to use youth services through the Metro Career Centers. Our dedicated staff will help you develop an individualized career path and connect you with partners to provide services that are specific to your needs.

Do I need parental consent to participate?

Parental consent is required for indivudals ages 14 to 17 if he or she intends to participate in a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) youth service. However, if you are at least age 18, you may walk-in and receive Career Center services.

Can I bring a friend with me?

Youth can bring a friend if the person is interested in services at the Metro Career Centers.

I want summer employment. Can the Metro Career Centers help me find a job?

The Metro Career Centers can assist with finding summer employment for young individuals who qualify according to age requirements.

Can the Metro Career Centers help me get training?

The Metro Career Centers can assist with a variety of training if you qualify for services.

Can the Metro Career Centers help me find full-time employment?

If you are eligible for full-time employment, your Metro Career Center has an employment system available to you through California’s employment web portal, calJobs.ca.gov. In addition, we can connect you with individual agencies that help young people with training and placement.

Unemployment Insurance

How do I apply for unemployment benefits?

To apply for unemployment benefits, go to edd.ca.gov, the official website of California’s Employment Development Department. Or, if you don't have Internet access, to apply for unemployment benefits in person, go to your nearest full service Metro Career Center as soon as you become unemployed. You will be required to report your last employer's name, mailing address, phone number and dates of employment as well as your own contact information including address, Social Security number, and phone number.
